"Transactional" Hits Its Pre-Ordained Wall
Back in the old neighborhood there was an expression frequently cited by those of Italian descent. One hand washes the other. A more American variation would be: I’ll scratch your back and you’ll scratch mine.
Healthy, productive enduring relationships, as you are aware, require trust and sufficient flexibility to endure through life’s inevitable tough times. Sometimes things go sideways and hopefully there is enough history and determined commitment built up over time to roll with the tensions and sustain.
Reciprocity alone won’t get you there. If that’s the only component of one’s interpersonal connections and attachments, there will be a large number of relationally terminating disruptions over time.
I’m anticipating in the future there will be graduate level business courses which feature a case study where the above pictured “transaction” is unpacked.
