Sometimes Life Is Unfair
Some very sad news this week from nearby Fort Wayne. Tom Henry, recently elected to his 5th term, announced he had late-stage stomach cancer. Mr. Henry is the second longest serving mayor of the city.
Henry has benefitted from some wise decision making/leadership on his part and some fortuitous economic trends that have kept the city’s sails full during his tenure. With all the gratuitous noise in politics these days, he’s worked consistently hard and the results are in obvious evidence. Fort Wayne is often rated as a high-quality locale in which to work and live.
As is typical of his no nonsense, pragmatic approach to leadership, Henry, in making the announcement, said that his prognosis is “not particularly encouraging.”
We’d all be much better off if more public officials comported themselves as Henry has through the years.
Sometimes life is very unfair.
