Went to see this one today. Growing up with Catholic parents, the institution continues to fascinate. (Both my parents stopped attending church in their middle years. Dad was particularly put off by the church’s lame response to its child sexual abuse scandal. Born in 1917, he had zero tolerance for priests who would sexually abuse children. He was done.)
My early experience with nuns was intimidating at times. Some were nice enough. Most others, to put it gently, gave new meaning to the word “stern.”
The movie has within it universal themes-good/evil, faith/doubt, the reality of this fallen world, and what we mere mortals are called to do. There is a poignant, very pertinent depiction of what happens when people give in to fear and hatred.
Terrific acting and cinematography.
I liked it.
If you see it, feel free to let me know your thoughts in the comments section below. Thanks in advance.
I saw it last night and liked it a lot. It is well done but I can see why some Catholics would choose not to see it.
