A Countervailing Influence
We don’t hear too much about moral authority these days. It’s not de rigueur.
I was listening to the BBC feed on the way home yesterday. All those interviewed were using the word “stunned.”
With the flurry of activity thus far this year. sometimes I tune out and try to lose myself in something like a book or a long walk. A friend remarked to me this week that even isolating oneself from the cacophony of noise takes a lot of energy.
A recurrent biblical theme is that the power and principalities are thrown off balance by sources that, at first glance, seem to be in no position to make a difference. (Remember John Paul II and the Communist edifice?)
I read that Pope Leo has a long history of helping people who today some would call “losers.” I also understand that he has an interest in taking care of our planet-God’s gift to us.
Even though there are times when it looks like one group is running up the score, the reality is always more nuanced. It is important to consider that. It is part of being hopeful.
Have a good weekend.
